Brink Jewelry started out as all too few great things start – with a teenage boy watching television. I saw the show “battlebots” and I was hooked! If you are not familiar with this, it’s a show where people build robots and fight them against each other. I wanted to build one, and at the age of 15, I made my first robot. It was simple, and it didn’t do very well, but I was hooked! So, as most guys my age were buying cars, I was buying Bridgeport mills and south bend lathes. It was with these tools that I would later go on to make my jewelry. I actually started making some amazing robots, and in the process I taught myself machining, engineering, and computer aided drafting.
It was around this time that I went into college, and I was paying for that, so needless to say I was your average college student without 2 pennies to rub together. I had a girlfriend and her birthday was in a week, and I had no idea what to do. So, I made her a ring – my first titanium ring – and she loved it! Pretty soon a few other guys around campus wanted rings for their girlfriends, so I made them, and all of a sudden I was in business!
So in July of 2007 I decided that I could sell my rings to more people than just my college friends, so I decided to start a website to sell my rings. Initially my intention was to sell enough rings to fund my robot making, but within a few months I was making so many rings that I didn’t have time to make my robots. Pretty soon after that my jewelry making replaced my full time job as a junior engineer, and not long after that I left college to pursue jewelry making, and I have never looked back.
Ever since I was a little boy I wanted to be an inventor, and my parents helped me work towards that. However, now that I make jewelry, I feel like this is the career that all of the things I have enjoyed led me to. I get to spend my time designing new cutting edge jewelry, working with my tools, with a healthy dose of chemistry and a little dash of magic.
